Sitting around the house the other day, I noticed the case (Snap Case by Incase) on my iPhone 4 was a bit loose. I looked down to see that a corner had cracked, probably from one of the two times I’ve dropped it. While I’m not a cheap person, I’m also not a wasteful one, and even though the Snap Case doesn’t offer as much coverage or protection as I’d like, it came for free with the phone, and I wasn’t about to change what wasn’t broken. However, this newfound problem changes everything. I did a bit of quick searching online and found a nice gallery of some popular iPhone cases. As I was nearing the end of the page, I came across this interesting piece, a bamboo case made by Grove, a company based entirely in Oregon.
To me, how something feels is almost as important as how it looks. Maybe it’s just genetics, or a quality passed down from generation to generation, but every male in my family, including me, has had some fascination with hardwood. I love the feel and look of wood, and ever since attending a craft show where I purchased some wooden utensils, and later, a wooden coffee cup, I’ve been on a bit of a kick with functional wooden objects. I saw this case and knew I had to have it. It comes in two different colors, amber (above) and natural. Microfiber lined, hand crafted, and customizable (they do laser engraving), I plopped down the, somewhat expensive, $69 for one. It’ll be here in 3-4 weeks, so they say. Looking forward to getting it in and giving it a proper review. If it’s as good as I think it is, I very well may just buy an iPad to get their case for it. I’m a bit worried it’ll add a bit of bulk to the phone (especially coming from one of the slimmer cases out there) but we’ll see how it looks. Given how it looks, I don’t think I’d mind a few more millimeters.
