Photo of the Day (11/16/10): Restorations

As part of a surprise 50th anniversary party for my grandparents this coming weekend, I’m taking a number of old photos of theirs and restoring / digitizing them. Most of them are pretty worn and damaged, so I’m going through, correcting the problems, and cleaning things up. I have a few hundred pictures to scan and edit before the week is up, so I’m trying my best to manage my time with each. Above is a great one I found of my great-great-grandparents from early 19th century. Love the clothing and rigid formality of pictures from back then.

Random Thoughts of the Day (11/15/10)

Productive weekend down in Connecticut. Got a chance to get some seat time on a bike, heading down to the parking lot of the local elementary school with the significant other’s father (slightly blurry iPhone picture). We took one of his Ninja 250′s out and did some basic exercises including walking, turning, starting, clutch engagement, etc.

I did pretty well except for one drop as an oversized RV camper came speeding toward me on a narrow pass; bike was unharmed except for a small scratch on the turn signal (don’t know how I managed that). Hopefully I’ll get another chance to get out this year (weather permitting), and if not, pick up my own bike in time for the start of next season.

My Dermalogica stuff came on Saturday and I’m pretty excited to start using it. I ordered a few more things yesterday (toner and sunscreen) to add to my routine. I have a dermatologist appointment some time in the next month or two, so hopefully I get some results by then.

Getting a haircut tomorrow, since I’m not really a huge fan of these Farrah Fawcett curl type things going on. One day I’ll get adventurous and get it cut some new way, but for now, just the same old same old. Other than that, not much going on this week. Perhaps a visit to a friend, an interview on Wednesday, and some sitting around passing time like usual.

Random Thoughts of the Day (11/11/10)

Well, another fun packed day. Woke up, ate half a muffin I found sitting around, and washed my car in the freezing cold. After not being able to feel my hands for an hour, came in, took a shower, and sat in bed catching up on some tv. Called to make a haircut appointment, but just my luck, none available.

Tomorrow I’ll be heading down to Connecticut with the significant other for a, hopefully, nice weekend. Her grandparents (who no one seems especially found of) are visiting from out of state and staying at her house along with us and her parents. Hoping to get on a bike, weather permitting, and just get some relaxation time.

I’ve been getting easily annoyed lately; not just in daily face to face interactions, but even online with just general common stupidity. I think being cooped up and subjected to the monotonous schedule of being a bum is getting to me. I know I thought taking some time off would be good for me, but I honestly didn’t realize it would be this daunting. Having nothing to do when you wake up, no purpose or goal, really takes a toll on you. I’m hoping for a job or project or something to come along soon, if for nothing else, just to keep me busy.

Random Thoughts of the Day (11/10/10)

Interesting past couple of days. Monday involved some cleaning of the room thanks to a rainy day, going out only once for about five minutes to grab a sandwich which I ate at home in my room. Exciting.

Yesterday I drove down from Boston to Northampton, MA to visit a friend at Smith College (yay sleepovers). Drive wasn’t too bad, about 2 hours total with 60 miles on 90-W. Got there around 3PM, and spent about half an hour driving around trying to find parking. We stopped by a Starbucks for a little, picked up some beer for a BYOB burger joint, and headed back to her place. All in all a fun day. Drive home was less than eventful, except for the lady in a Prius passing me at 90+ MPH while applying eyeliner. Dumbass. Got home and just ate and slept; no excitement at all.

I’ve been getting into the whole skincare thing lately in an effort to take a bit better care of myself, so I’ll probably be ordering some new face wash and other paraphernalia online today, kind of excited for that. Other then that, just going to be sitting around home bored tomorrow. Probably wash the car and go to the book store or something for a magazine.

New England Webcomics Weekend (2010)

This weekend was the second annual New England Webcomics Weekend (NEWW) here in Easthampton, MA. Some of the most popular and well known artists come from around the country and meet and greet fans of their various web based comics. The event was two days (Nov. 6 & 7), with several thousand people descending upon the otherwise quiet town from all over New England.

Tickets were $6 for one day or $1o for the weekend; extremely reasonable. Most venders, if not all, had merchandise for sale; books, pins, posters, stuffed animals, etc. Cash was the main way to pay for most things, but there were one or two that accepted credit cards. Lines for the various booths were generally short, and authors were happy to have a quick chat and sign what ever you wanted, a few even posing for photo ops. Various sessions were held throughout the day, run by the artists attending the show, most on things like “Your Star Trek Questions” and the similar. Read more

Random Thoughts of the Day (11/2/10)

I finally got off my ass today and applied for my Class-M license. I’ve been wanting to learn, and ultimately buy, a motorcycle for some time. The fuel economy, ease of parking and traveling in a city, and just general enjoyment makes it pretty appealing to me. Took the written test at the Watertown RMV. Walked in, grabbed a pen to fill out my paperwork, and got called up within a minute of sitting down, and paid my $30. I had to take a written test on one of those new fangled computer terminals that had more to do with drinking and various fines / fees than actual rules of the road. Passed with 1 question wrong. It’s a little cold out now for any kind of biking, but hopefully come this spring, I’ll start up the process.

Job search is going as well as can be expected. Several calls and interested companies, but no offers as of yet. Given the economy, I’m not all that surprised. Things move a lot more slowly than I thought, with most companies I’ve talked to not ready to make a move for another few weeks. I’ve been applying to a few new ones as they pop up, as I haven’t really gotten any rejections yet. Thinking maybe in the next month or so I may get some positive results.

Looking forward to going to this comic convention this coming weekend. The authors of a few various comics I enjoy will be there, possibly giving me a chance to score some signatures and other cool stuff. Tickets are like $10 for 2 days, so there isn’t much to lose really.
